Bafana Star Mbokazi Named to MLS All-Star First XI

Bafana Bafana defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi has earned a place in the First XI for the 2026 Major League Soccer All-Star Game.

The 2026 MLS All-Star Game will see Major League Soccer’s finest go head-to-head with a team of stars from Mexico’s top flight, Liga MX, on 29 July in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The 20-year-old has been included in the team that features stars like Lionel Messi and Son Heung-Min, who makes his first appearances.

The MLS All-Stars will face a team of All-Stars from Mexico’s LIGA MX at the Bank of America Stadium on Wednesday, July 29.

Seike struck again in the 19th minute, doubling the hosts’ advantage as they completely dictated the tempo of the game.

The pressure continued to mount on the 2022 African champions, and in the 29th minute, Momoko Tanikawa produced a moment of individual brilliance. The midfielder fired a superb strike from distance to give Japan a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the break.

Returning for the second half, Banyana Banyana attempted to stabilize their defensive organization, but Japan remained ruthless in the final third. Aoba Fujino added a fourth goal shortly after the restart in the 49th minute, and subsequently completed her brace in the 60th minute to seal the 5-0 victory.

Despite entering the fixture with the momentum of consecutive victories over Algeria in April, South Africa struggled to launch meaningful transitions or disrupt Japan’s possession-based rhythm. Les examens médicaux ont révélé une déchirure musculaire à la cuisse gauche, une blessure qui l’oblige à déclarer forfait pour la compétition. Face à cette absence de dernière minute, Julian Nagelsmann a rapidement trouvé son remplaçant. Le technicien allemand a décidé de faire appel à Assan Ouédraogo, milieu de terrain du RB Leipzig, qui rejoint ainsi le groupe pour disputer le tournoi mondial.

Le club saxon a officialisé la nouvelle à travers un communiqué. « Ouédraogo appelé pour la Coupe du Monde.
