FIFA World Cup 2026 :

Jharkhand T20 League: Hard-fought victories for Koylanchal Super Kings and Jamshedpur Steelers on day three

Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], June 13 (ANI): Koylanchal Super Kings and the Jamshedpur Steelers secured hard-fought victories over Chota Nagpur Royals and Dhanbad Diamonds, respectively, on day three of the Jharkhand T20 Cricket League held at the JSCA International Stadium Complex.

Koylanchal Super Kings won by five wickets, whilst Jamshedpur Steelers sealed their victory by 7 runs, according to a release.

In the opening match of the day, Chota Nagpur Royals were bowled out for 190 in 19.4 overs. Chandan Kumar Mukhi top-scored for his side with a brisk 49.

He was well-supported by openers MD Nazim Siddiqui (41) and Virat Singh (36) in the innings. For the Koylanchal Super Kings, Shubh Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, returning figures of 3/43 in his 3.4 overs.

Chasing a target of 191, Koylanchal Super Kings got off to a flyer as Utkarsh Singh (53) and Player of the Match Sharandeep Singh Bhatia (79) stitched together a commanding 122-run opening partnership. A late cameo from Shubh Sharma guided the team home in 19.1 overs, finishing at 192/5 to seal a five-wicket victory with five balls to spare. For the Royals, Supriyo Chakraborty, only the third bowler in the league to claim a five-wicket haul, bowled a magnificent spell of 5/29 in vain.

The second encounter of the day saw another batting masterclass as the Jamshedpur Steelers posted a formidable total of 202/6 with Adarsh Giri (41) and Kumar Debobrat (24) performing with the bat. For Dhanbad Diamonds, Shamshed Ahmad led the bowling attack with figures of 4/39, while Atul Singh Surwar chipped in with 2/33.

Facing a mammoth target of 203, Dhanbad Diamonds started their chase with all guns blazing. Openers Ram Raushan Sharan (63) and Vikash Kumar Vishal (58) put on a spectacular 118-run partnership for the first wicket. However, the Steelers’ bowlers strangled the Diamonds in the death overs, restricting them to 195/8 in 20 overs to snatch a narrow 7-run victory.

Pratik Ranjan was the star with the ball for Jamshedpur, returning economical figures of 3/27 to turn the tide in the middle overs. Ravi Sharma took 2/24 in his 3 overs and was the player of the match trophy for his contribution of 30* off 19 balls runs with the bat as well. (ANI)

Manu Bhaker pays emotional tribute to coach Jaspal Rana after his death

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 13 (ANI): Double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker paid an emotional tribute to her coach Jaspal Rana, describing him as a mentor, guide and friend whose influence played a defining role in shaping both her sporting career and personal journey.

Rana, one of India’s most decorated shooters, passed away at the age of 49. He had recently undergone a stent procedure after experiencing chest discomfort in late May and was admitted to a hospital, where he succumbed despite medical intervention.

Speaking from Dehradun, where Rana’s mortal remains were brought, Bhaker said she was struggling to process the loss of the man who had stood by her during some of the most crucial phases of her shooting career.

“I still can’t believe it," Manu told Olympics.com on Friday. “It is unbelievable news. I am struggling to process it. He was not just my coach, mentor or guide, but also a friend who understood me better than most people."

Rana, one of India’s most accomplished shooters, won multiple medals at the Commonwealth and Asian Games, including 13 gold medals. A former world junior champion, Olympian, and Padma Shri awardee, he later transitioned into a highly respected coaching role.

Rana played a crucial role in shaping Manu Bhaker’s growth as a shooter, guiding her through both triumphs and setbacks in a partnership that went on to produce one of Indian sport’s most notable comeback narratives.

Their relationship extended well beyond the shooting range, reflecting a deep personal bond built on trust and mentorship.

“There were times when he was strict, and there were times when he simply listened," Manu recalled. “He always wanted the best from me, even when I did not understand it at the time. Looking back now, every lesson he taught me had a purpose."

“When we started working together again, it felt like coming home," Manu said. “He knew when I was confident, when I was nervous and when I needed support. He always found a way to bring out the best in me."

Under Rana’s guidance, Manu rediscovered her confidence and belief before going on to become the first Indian, post-independence, to win two medals at a single Olympic Games at Paris 2024.

“Every medal, every success, every moment on the podium will always remind me of him," Manu said. “A part of those victories belongs to him because he never stopped believing in me, even during the most difficult phases of my career."

“He taught me how to fight, how to stay grounded and how to never give up," she said. “The lessons he gave me will stay with me forever".

“It was discipline and commitment that he taught me every single day," Manu summed up Jaspal Rana’s impact. (ANI)

WATCH: USA break HUGE record in 4-1 win over Paraguay in FIFA World Cup 2026 opener, achieve THIS feat after 96 years

USA vs Paraguay FIFA World Cup 2026 Group D match: Folarin Balogun became the first-ever player from United State of America to score twice in a World Cup match in 96 years as co-hosts hammered Paraguay 4-1 in their opening Group D match at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Friday night. USA’s win by a three-goal margin was their first-ever after 96 years.

Their previous two wins by this margin was back in the 1930 FIFA World Cup – defeating both Belgium and Paraguay 3-0. USA’s dominant win was preceded by the third and final opening ceremony which was attended by dozens of American celebrities, who turned out for the match 10 miles south of Hollywood, including Tom Cruise, George Lucas, Bill Gates, Halle Berry, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

‘Christian Pulisic, nicknamed ‘Captain America’, provided an assist in a sensational first-half display by the Americans, who entertained the Southern California fans by racing to a 3-0 halftime lead — the team’s largest in any World Cup game.

Folarin became the first American footballer to score a brace since 1930. The last US star to achieve this feat was Bert Patenaude, who had in fact netted a hat-trick against Paraguay in the 1930 edition.

Gio Reyna completed the rout by ripping in a fourth goal in the dying moments of second-half injury time, giving the Americans four goals in a World Cup match for the first time. The US had only scored three goals combined in their four matches at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and it had never scored more than three in a World Cup match.

Maurício scored in the second half for Paraguay, but ‘La Albirroja’ were too far behind early in their first World Cup match in 16 years.

After the US went ahead on an early own-goal created by Pulisic’s playmaking, Balogun doubled their lead in the 31st minute and again in the fifth minute of first-half injury time.

Who is Folarin Balogun?

Folarin Balogun is a New York-born, London-raised striker and made his World Cup debut with a multigoal performance. Balogun chose to represent the US three years ago instead of staying in England, where he would have likely struggled to make the English team — and the 24-year-old Monaco professional has swiftly provided the top-level striker.

Cyle Larin rescues Canada vs Bosnia and Herezegovina

Co-hosts Canada avoided the embarrassment of a loss to start off their campaign in Group B of FIFA World Cup 2026 as they settled for a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herezegovina in BMO Field in Toronto on Friday. Canadian substitute Cyle Larin provided a late equalised to dash Bosnian hopes.

The draw against Bosnia, helped the Canadians end a six-match losing streak in World Cup tournament. After Amar Memic fired an early warning shot over the bar, Bosnia took the lead when Sead Kolasinac managed to flick the batt into on a corner and Jovo Lukic headed home to put the Dragons ahead.

Introduced into the game in the 76th minute, Larin needed just two minutes to make an impact, turning sharply inside the box before firing home from Promise David’s assist to level the tie for the co-hosts.

“It was special for me. I was ready to come and help the team. I thought the goals would come. I score when Canada needs me, and always have done. We just have to stay concentrated and keep pushing our limits,” Larin said after the match.
