Antim Panghal, Asmita Dey, PT Usha Share Expectations Ahead of Asian Games

With the Asian Games fast approaching, India’s athletes are stepping up their preparations with a clear focus on delivering their best in Aichi-Nagoya.
Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha expressed confidence in India’s athletes and opened up about their preparations ahead of the Games.
“I don’t want to count how many medals we are going to get, but I have a lot of confidence in our players,” Usha said in the send off ceremony. “The preparation has been good, the associations have done a lot for the athletes and the government is fully supporting them.
“They should focus on their event, try their best and not keep stress. Then it will be a good performance, and we can be proud of it,” she added.
Indian weightlifter Antim Panghal reflected on the support form the association. “We have a few days left for the Asian Games. We have a camp in Delhi, where we are getting good training partners. We are trying to give our 100%. We have to give our best and give 100% of what we have trained for,” Panghal said. “Injury is a part of our game. We have to recover from the injury and prepare more than before. We did not train when we were injured, so we have to set our mindset.”

Young judoka Asmita Dey also reflected on her preparation. “Right now, I am training well, and I have to win a medal at the Asian Games for my country. I am training hard for that. I will also go to Japan for training in two-three days and try to prepare well,” Dey said. “Two-three players in my weight category are Olympians, and they have won many medals at the world level. I will have to train a lot for the fights against them so that I can defeat them, reach the finals and win a medal.”
Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted the growing pool of talent in Indian sports pointing out the number of athletes making there Asian Games debut.
“Of the 503 athletes going to the Asian Games, more than 300 are competing for the first time,” Mandaviya said. “This shows that new talent is coming through in Indian sport.
“Our target is 2036. By the time we host the Olympics, we want India to be firmly established on the world stage. This is a 10-year plan, with more than Rs 36,000 crore allocated for sports infrastructure,” Mandaviya added.
The Asian Games will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.

Player of the Match
Nahida Akhter | Bangladesh
Thanks to Almighty, we won the match and definitely Player of the Match is good for me. At that time, I knew my role, and my coach told me my role, and I knew Shorna Akter was there. So it was easy for me to bat. No, we were 20 runs short. Still, we believed our batsmen could do better, and we knew our bowling strength.
