History was made at the Home of Cricket, and the writer had the privilege of witnessing every moment from the press box. India’s commanding victory over England in the first-ever Women’s Test at Lord’s was more than just another cricket match – it was an experience that will remain etched in memory forever.

Team India registered a thumping victory over England in the historic first-ever Women’s Test at Lord’s, adding another glorious chapter to the history of women’s cricket. The writer, along with senior colleague Trisha Ghosal, had the opportunity to cover the match from the iconic venue and witness history unfold.

For the writer, covering a match at Lord’s was surreal. The first visit to the ground came on 26 June, two days before India’s Women’s T20 World Cup clash against Australia. The moment one stepped inside the stadium, history seemed to come alive. Every wall carried photographs, stories and memories, reminding visitors why Lord’s is known as the Home of Cricket. Covering practice sessions and press conferences only made the experience even more special.

India’s campaign ended with a defeat against Australia on 28 June, but the writer returned to Lord’s for the Women’s T20 World Cup final on 5 July. A packed stadium backed England as they chased a second Women’s T20 World Cup title, but Australia once again proved why they remain the benchmark, lifting yet another T20 World Cup trophy.

Then came the biggest attraction – the first-ever Women’s Test at Lord’s between England and India. For Trisha and myself, this was the moment we had been waiting for. Test cricket, the red ball and Lord’s – there is something magical about that combination for every cricket lover. Ever since one began following the sport, covering a Test at Lord’s had been a dream.

The sound of the red ball striking the bat during both teams’ training sessions in the days leading up to the Test was enough to build the excitement. It was a feeling that words can hardly describe.

The historic Test began on 10 July. Credit must go to the ECB for beautifully celebrating the occasion with several activities and felicitations for former England Women’s cricketers throughout the four days.

A special mention must go to the crowd. Across the four days, a total of 37,486 spectators attended the match – a world-record attendance for a Women’s Test. Day two alone drew 15,243 spectators, the highest single-day attendance in the history of Women’s Test cricket. The support, appreciation and respect shown by the crowd lived up to the occasion and elevated the spectacle to another level.

Meanwhile, India posted 285 in the first innings as Smriti Mandhana became the first woman to score a Test fifty at Lord’s. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma also registered half-centuries.

Day two belonged to 22-year-old Kranti Gaud. The young pacer produced a sensational five-wicket haul to become the first woman to take a Test five-for at Lord’s and earn a place on the famous honours board. Watching her execute her plans so brilliantly and receive a standing ovation from the Lord’s crowd was a truly special moment. Her spell helped India bundle England out for just 170, giving the visitors a commanding 115-run lead.

History continued to be written on day three. Although Smriti once again missed out on a century despite another fifty, Yastika Bhatia stole the show with a magnificent 113. She became the first woman to score a Test century at Lord’s and only the second Indian woman to feature on the Lord’s honours board.

For the writer, Yastika’s knock was a statement. After a lengthy injury lay-off, limited opportunities during the England T20Is, a difficult Women’s T20 World Cup and missing out on the Asian Games squad, she answered every question with both the bat and the gloves. Richa Ghosh’s unbeaten half-century provided the finishing touches as India set England a daunting target of 457.

By the end of day three, India needed just four more wickets. On the final morning, Sneh Rana’s four-wicket haul completed the job as India scripted history with a dominant victory.

The celebrations that followed were unforgettable. Fireworks lit up the sky, chants echoed around the ground and Indian fans celebrated a landmark victory. For the writer, those were the moments that remind every journalist why they chose this profession.

The experience became even more memorable as the writer and Trisha interacted with several Indian players after the match and conducted an exclusive interview with Player of the Match Kranti.

For a young journalist, standing on the hallowed turf of Lord’s once felt like an impossible dream. Today, that dream has become a reality. From witnessing India’s historic Women’s ODI World Cup triumph in 2025 to covering this unforgettable Test victory, the writer has been fortunate enough to witness some of the greatest moments in Indian women’s cricket.

A heartfelt thank you to Trisha and Boria Majumdar for their constant support and belief. The England chapter may now be over, but the memories of Lord’s – the Home of Cricket – will remain with the writer for a lifetime. Some journeys end, but some memories last forever.

The highly-anticipated 16th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL 16) will commence from December 12, 2026 onwards and will go on till January 17, 2027. A week after the Women’s Big Bash League fixtures were unveiled, Cricket Australia on Tuesday announced the full list of fixtures for the men’s tournament as well. Border-Gavaskar Trophy vs India priority

“The date for the BBL 2026 final avoids a clash with the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Nagpur from January 21-25 and coincides with a public holiday. Australia’s all-format stars are unlikely to feature in the BBL this summer with the Test squad to leave for India straight after the four-match series against New Zealand, scheduled to conclude in Sydney on January 8,” CA stated in a statement.

RCB Coach Andy Flower Is Frontrunner To Become England Test Coach And Take Up Hybrid Role – Reports

In a very interesting potential move that could shake things up for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise in the IPL is that the RCB coach, Andy Flower, has been linked to the vacant England Test coach role.

Earlier this month, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) sacked Brendon McCullum as the Test coach even though his contract had been designed up to the home 2027 Ashes. McCullum, though, has been retained as the white-ball coach following England’s successful run to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup this year and the hammering of India at home by 4-0 recently.

McCullum has been removed from the Test role just days after captain Ben Stokes brought the curtains to his international career.

The New Zealander took up the England Test coach job in 2022, along with the appointment of Stokes as the skipper, in the wake of a horrendous run for the England Test team under Joe Root and Chris Silverwood.

The Bazball wave washed over everyone as England clattered run chases at home and even beat Pakistan away. However, England couldn’t attain a series win over their two strongest opponents: out of the four Test series under Stokes and McCullum against Australia and India, England drew two (both at home) and lost two (both away).

The Ashes 2025/26 drubbing in Australia was quite significant and brutal. And even though McCullum, Stokes, and managing director Rob Key managed to retain their positions in the post-Ashes review, only Key now remains in the role following the 2-1 loss at home to New Zealand this summer.

Who will be the new England Test coach? RCB’s Andy Flower in the fray

According to ESPNcricinfo, RCB coach Andy Flower is touted as the favorite to become England’s new Test coach, but at the same time, he would continue with RCB.

The ECB is considering allowing their new Test coach to work in the IPL or any other franchise leagues if they desire.

Richard Gould, the ECB’s chief executive, said, “We need to be progressive in these issues. We’ve got players trying to balance between county, franchise, international cricket. It’s a really busy calendar. We may well have to do the same with our coaching staff and supporting staff; we already do, to an extent. But I think that is something that we will have to have a look at.

“One of the difficulties is the IPL dates are not a fixed thing, and there maybe will be some compromises that need to be made along the way. But the important thing is that we’ve got the best individuals that offer the best fit and we get them into those positions. It is something that we would certainly consider.”

Flower is already experienced in coaching the England team to immense success in the past. Under Flower, England became the No. 1 Test team in 2011 when they thumped India 4-0 at home after having sealed a historic Ashes 2010/11 series in Australia, the last time England won the away Ashes.

He also coached RCB to two consecutive IPL trophies, ending an 18-season drought for the franchise. In the coming weeks, Flower will be overseeing the London Spirit in the Hundred.
