Sundar says 'different roles excite me' after rescuing Team India from slump

In the first ODI match against England, Team India emerged victorious by six wickets at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham.

During the match, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar stitched a crucial partnership of 102 runs to help Team India recover from a slump. Axar garnered an unbeaten 57 runs in 52 balls, including five boundaries and a maximum, whereas Washington accumulated an unbeaten 52 runs off 63 deliveries, with the help of four boundaries and a maximum.

Speaking about his performance, Washington said that it excites him to play in different situations of the match.

"The fact that I play different roles is exciting. Not many people get to play different roles. I get to play those different roles and be in those different situations. Obviously, I try my best to help the team win. It is exciting to be in different situations and different phases of the game," he said in the post-match press conference.

The victory has helped the "Men in Blue" take a lead by 1-0 in the ongoing three-match ODI series against the Englishmen.

The second ODI match between Team India and England will be played on July 16 at the Sophia Gardens Cricket Ground in Cardiff. The superstar batting duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are yet to fire in the series. In the first match, Rohit departed after scoring 11 runs in 21 balls, which included a boundary, whereas Virat was dismissed on five runs in six balls, including a boundary.

Ahead of the second match, the cricket fans will keep a tab on the duo and will expect them to deliver big performances with the willow.
